Assessment

Foundation stage profile

Children continue to be assessed in the reception classes where staff will add information to an assessment profile for each individual. Insights will be shared at parent consultation meetings. Your child will have a learning journey book of photos and comments which will be available during the year for you to add to.

Year One phonic check

All children in Year 1 will participate in a phonics check.  This assessment will be administered by the Y1/2 teachers.  Results are included within the Year 1 end of term report.

SATS

Children in Year 2 and Year 6 are assessed during May. The results of these assessments are reported annually to the parents by the governing body. Optional SATs materials may be used in classes 3, 4 and 5 to assist teacher assessment of pupil progress. The national expectation is that children should aim to be working at the end of year expectations in Reading, Writing, Maths and Science.

In 2016 new KS1 and KS2 tests were introduced to assess the children and outcomes are reported using scaled scores and if children are working towards age expectations or have met age expectations.

Marking and assessment

We aim to provide feedback to children through marking so that they have specific advice about improvements to their work. Children are given time to read and review their work following marking and action any developmental learning points to create a learning dialogue. Children are encouraged to draw a face when they have finished their work to show their level of understanding and to add a comment if possible. Please see our Feedback Policy and Assessment Policy.

Parent consultations

Parents are very welcome in school and we aim to involve them with their children’s education as much as possible. Family consultation evenings take place in the Autumn and Spring terms. In addition to this if you wish to meet with the class teacher please arrange an appointment after or before school. The Headteacher are always happy to listen to concerns or to offer support. Please call at the office or telephone for an appointment.

Reports to parents

At the end of each year your child will bring home a full report detailing progress and achievements across the curriculum. The report will be based on self assessment by your child and summative observations by the teaching team. Parents / Carers are encouraged to provide feedback to the school.
