Religious Education (RE)

Intent

The aim of Religious Education at Upper Beeding Primary School is to be challenging and child-centred, while allowing the children opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life; and this as such underpins a broad and balanced curriculum.

We use Discovery RE and the content of this programme responds to the needs of the school and the children as it remains currents and relevant.

Religious Education is taught throughout the school, each unit of work is planned and sequenced and demonstrates a spiral learning progression with key assessment points along the way.

The children acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the other principal religions represented in Great Britain; to appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and our behaviour, develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues and enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Religious Education plays an important role, along with all other curriculum areas, particularly PSHE, in promoting the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our children.
